Skin Care

Skin type: Combination/Oily & Sensitive

I have been fighting a battle with my skin for around 10 years now and only recently have I been feeling like I'm on the winning side.

From the moment I hit my "teens", my skin turned into that prepubescent problematic mess that is acne. I used every type of anti-blemish spot fighting cream on the shelves at Superdrug, but nothing worked.

So now I'm in my twenties and finally my skin has settled down. Time really is a healer! I'd still classify my skin as oily, but it's massively improved over the last 4 years. I generally have an oily t-zone (forehead, nose, chin and the tops of my cheeks) and when I do break out, it's usually on my forehead or chin. To top that off my skin is very sensitive and I tend to break out in rashes when I use particular products.

I'm happy to try new products and I've tried all sorts of potions and lotions in the past, but I always come back to the same ones in the end. Here are the staples in my skincare routine:

Face wash: Johnson & Johnson Clean & Clear Deep Action Cream Wash

I can't say this helped to clear away my spots, but it makes my skin feel tingly and clean! I use it to wash my face in the morning and also before bed.

Face scrub: St. Ives Apricot Scrub (Invigorating)

I genuinely love this stuff! It's leaves my skin feeling really clean and soft, and the exfoliating particles are just the right texture to give my skin a good scrub without it being too rough. I use this 1-2 times a week. Remember, it's not good to exfoliate too often as it can be quite taxing on your skin and it needs time to rejuvenate in between scrubs!

Face cream: Simple Spotless Skin Anti-blemish Moisturiser

Simple products work really well for me and I like the fact that they have no perfume and no colour. This moisturiser is great for my skin because it's very lightweight and gives me just enough moisture without making my skin look oily. I use this after washing my face morning and night.

Face wipes: Simple Kind To Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes

Hands down the best and only facial wipes I will use on my skin. Why you ask? They have no oil, no artificial colour or perfumes, and best of all no alcohol! My sensitive skin BURNS (especially my eye area) when I've used other make up wipes in the past, even if they say they have no alcohol in them (I'm guessing it's the perfume in them). Simple's make up wipes do a fantastic job of removing all of my make up and are still really gentle on my skin.

Body cream: Dove Purely Pampering Body Cream

This is the newest addition to my skincare routine. Body lotion is the one product that does change often as I try lots of new creams that come out. I'm really impressed with this Dove body cream because it's not too thick, nor is it too runny and it moisturises my skin so well without leaving it feeling sticky. It's made with shea butter and smells of warm vanilla so it leaves my skin smelling lovely and sweet. I use this everyday after showering.

All of these products are available in Superdrug, Boots and most supermarkets. I really don't believe that all cosmetics and skincare should be high-end and expensive because from experience, it's about what works best for your skin. :)
