Over the last year I've noticed my eyes aging :( boo! My dark circles have gotten a lot worse and the fine lines around my eyes are a lot more noticeable. So, after reading many good reviews about Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Eye Rescue, I used some birthday vouchers to buy it to see if it really could work any magic! It retails at £40 for a 15ml pot which makes it quite an expensive product, so my expectations were high!
Charlotte describes this cream as "an eyelift in a tube", which is a big claim to make! She also says this eye cream re-energises the under eye area, blurs away lines and imperfections, hydrates it, and nourishes it to soothe and restore the skin.
Since it was the lead up to my wedding, I was determined to keep to a strict regime and do whatever I could to make sure my skin looked good for the big day! The packaging was really pretty looking, perfect to display on a dressing table, although the pot was made from plastic and not glass. Practically speaking, the product itself took up a very small amount of the overall pot making it unnecessarily large for 15ml of cream. The product itself didn't feel cream-like at all. It felt quite thin and velvety, and it was easy to apply and absorbed into the skin without much effort. The cream didn't really have much of a scent to it, which is probably good since it's supposed to be applied around the eyes.
So how did it go you ask? It's not advertised as a night cream, but I found the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Eye Rescue to be rather greasy looking on my skin for use in the daytime, so I stuck to using it at night only. I used it religiously every single night for 6 months. I'm going to be completely honest with you all as I am with everything I review. It didn't make any difference to my dark circles or to the fine lines around my eyes unfortunately. I also started noticing that my eye area would get really sensitive and sometimes my skin would break out after applying the product. The cream also triggered my eyes to water a lot after having it on for a few minutes, which was really uncomfortable and having to constantly wipe my eyes made my skin quite sore. Funnily enough, my cousin and I both bought the Magic Eye Rescue at the same time, and she had the same reactions that I did so it wasn't just me!
This product's shelf life is 6 months (as you can see on the underside label). Fairly soon after the 6 month mark of opening it, the cream started to smell funny and the product itself looked rather lumpy and "off". I tried to rub a bit on the back of my hand and it felt slightly rubbery. It's important to pick up on these signs and discontinue using products when they're gone off since they can cause serious side effects to the skin.
Overall, I was really disappointed by this eye cream, especially since I spent so much money on it. I definitely gave it a good and fair try by using it every single night consistently for 6 months, but unfortunately I saw no difference to my eye area. I'm not going to let this put me off the Charlotte Tilbury brand as I really like her makeup line, but I'm not convinced about her skincare products after trying this product out, especially at their price point.
Let me know if you've tried out any of the Charlotte Tilbury skincare range and how you got on with it.
Swapna x
