What To Wear To The Gym

When I first joined the gym, I was fairly clueless about what I should wear! Although this post may sound silly to a lot of people, I learnt that it's really important to wear the right clothing when you're working out. I was put off with the thought of stretchy lycra clinging to my lumps and bumps until I read up about it properly.

These (in my eyes) are the key things to look out for when buying gym gear:

1. Comfortable - you need to feel happy in what you're wearing and have the ability to move around without feeling uncomfortable and restricted.

2. Breathable - there are no two ways about it, exercising WILL get you hot and sweaty. So in order to avoid sweat drenched clothes mid workout, choose to wear breathable clothing such as Nike Dri-Fit. These materials are specially designed to soak up sweat and dry up quickly.

3. Stretchy - there is no point in exercising in restrictive clothing. You'll just make it harder for yourself to work out properly. Wearing tight fitted clothes can be a bit daunting, but it's a great way to ensure your muscles stay warm, aiding circulation and reducing build-up of lactic acid (the cause of muscle cramps).

Tip: if you feel conscious about wearing tight fitted clothes, I'd suggest wearing a long lightweight baggy vest or t-shirt on top.

A big annoyance I found when trying to shop for gym clothes was the cost of branded clothing! Certain sports brands aren't always affordable so I found some great bargains and alternative brands to try...

Sports Direct - has a tonne of brands from Nike to Karrimor usually very reasonably priced. Clearly there is a difference in the quality of some of the cheaper brands, but I think it's always worth checking them out to see if you can pick up a good bargain!

Debenhams - the sports department of Debenhams usually have some good Nike and Adidas bits in their reduced section, so I would recommend checking them out.

H&M - have a great sportswear line. I recently picked up a neon top and the quality of the material is great.

Primark - have recently expanded their sportswear section with some great bits at really affordable prices!

I picked this top up in black, grey, pink and light blue all at £4 each! What a bargain! I love wearing bright and colourful clothes to the gym because exercising isn't always fun, but why not look good whilst you're doing it, right?! ;)
