Laser Hair Removal - Does It Really Work?

Many girls and guys have unwanted hair all over their bodies. Let's face it, it's unsightly, inconvenient and just unnecessary! Coming from an Asian Indian background, I think it's fair to say that unwanted hair is a big issue for many considering our unfortunate genes!

After only waxing/epilating for about 10 years of my life I gave up. I needed to find something more permanent as waxing didn't seem to be having much of an effect on reducing my hair growth any time soon.

In comes laser hair removal! I was skeptical at first because of horror stories I'd heard about it not working well and skin getting burned (yikes!). But I did my research and went to a reputable clinic to trial a small area of my body first; my underarms. After 6 sessions I was so pleased to see a big improvement! My underarm hair growth was sparse and much less coarse, so I went on to book a full body package as I was happy with the results so far. FYI the machine that's used on me is called Cynosure.

I have had really great results so far and am still continuing with my treatment as 6 sessions weren't enough for me! I've found it to be most effective where hair is thicker and coarser (e.g. lower legs, underarms), and less effective where hair is generally finer (e.g. thighs, arms). My skin feels super smooth even when I haven't shaved as the hair is so fine and sparse now. There are some areas where 90% of hair has stopped growing, which is amazing!

A few tips to note before starting laser hair removal:

1. It is NOT pain free.
The pain is bearable, but it does hurt! Certain areas more than others.

2. It is not guaranteed to be permanent.
Hormones in your body can change in the future (pregnancy, menopause etc) and so there is a chance that hair may return.

3. It doesn't work for everyone.
It is most effective on lighter skin tones with dark hair.

4. DO YOUR RESEARCH! I cannot stress this enough. Laser hair removal can go wrong. If you are considering it, research the clinic and type of laser before you book anything to ensure your own safety.
